TELECOM NOTES: Wireless

This article centers on Ascendent and Sprint’s deployment of their Sprint Mobile Extension, a fixed-mobile convergence solution which will enable faster community response times from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

“Sprint and voice mobility solution provider Ascendent are providing the Lee County, Fla., sheriff’s office with Sprint Mobile Extension, a fixed mobile convergence solution, for faster community response, the company said. The technology uses the latest version of Ascendent Voice Mobility Suite to deliver communications, Ascendent Senior Marketing Manager Heather Howland said in an interview. It was integrated with phone infrastructure of the sheriff’s office to deliver fixed-mobile convergence capabilities to commanders and deputies away from their desks, she said. “It simplifies how deputies communicate and check voice messages while away” by linking the desk phone to any mobile device, Howland said. Ascendent sees opportunities for the technology in finance, manufacturing, healthcare, government, hospitality and education. Sprint considers the technology important for government agencies and businesses heavy with mobile workers. “
