Douglas Gisby brings more than 20 years of product engineering and software experience to his role as Director of Engineering at RIM. Gisby is responsible for developing and executing technical strategy around the Ascendent Voice Mobility Suite. Prior to joining RIM, Gisby served as Chief Technology Officer at Ascendent Systems where he was responsible for implementing the Company’s comprehensive voice mobility technology strategy, delivering products that drive customer success, and intimately understanding customers’ mobile needs. He was the main architect in assembling the Ascendent Voice Mobility solution.
Gisby has served a variety of technical roles in both enterprises and start-ups prior to joining Ascendent. Most recently, Gisby was Vice President of Engineering at security software company Cambia, where he led engineering and managed product development from initial development and architecture through release. Before joining Cambia, Gisby independently consulted to a number of Venture firms, as well as security software firm NetForensics, where he helped secure venture capital funding and assisted with implementing new development processes and procedures.
While serving as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Operations at GuardedNet (acquired by Micromuse), Gisby was responsible for turning its software into a marketable, viable product. He directed the product development group, growing it from three developers to 30 in less than two years. He also drove the product concept development from prototype through release. Before joining GuardedNet, Gisby was Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering at Witness Systems, where he authored several patents and helped the business grow to more than 100 employees enabling an $800M IPO. Earlier in his career, Gisby held software engineering and development positions at Aspect Telecommunications, Genesys Communications, Instem Computer Systems, Quattro Computer Systems Europe, and Rockwell Electronics.
Gisby earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Staffordshire in England. He has invented and authored 13 patents, including managing bandwidth on demand for internet protocol messaging with capability for transferring telephony calls from one media type to another and multimedia managing and prioritized queuing system integrated with intelligent routing capability.
